Research
I have a number of academic research interests which my employment enables me to pursue on an occasional, part-time basis.
In literary and cultural studies, I’m interested in New Zealand literary modernism, and in the impact on literary studies in New Zealand of other modes of reading, particularly historical and sociological approaches. I’m also interested in comparative approaches to New Zealand literature that explore alternatives to postcolonial cultural geographies.
In teaching and learning I’m interested in the use of memoir and reflective writing in learning and assessment, and as tools for academic inquiry into teaching and learning.
My PhD, “Iris, Read and Written: A New Poetics of Robin Hyde” (2001), can be read or downloaded from these pages. Please note that this copy is not for citation.
A bibliography of my publications, academic and non-academic, can be found below.
