I see this morning that Deborah is leaving The Hand Mirror. I wanted to note what I think has been a significant contribution of hers there, cross-posted from her own blog, and that is the Friday Feminist series.
I came to feminist theory at university, where the reading I did for my literary studies subjects ranged across some of the thinkers and writers cited by Deborah, along with others. It was that sense of having a written heritage–some of it difficult and contentious–that enabled me to define my own thinking, amorphous though it remains.
Feminist theory has also, I think, given feminism legitimacy in the academy by virtue of being published and citable. There’s research involved in collating these extracts and I hope Deborah will continue to do so at her own site. This explanation of her intent is also helpful.

Yes I will be continuing with it, and I am going to start trying to maintain an index page of all my Friday Feminist posts. I haven’t yet decided what order to do it in: theorist by alpha, theorist by date, date I posted it on my blog. Any opinions will be gratefully received, ‘though not necessarily acted upon.
I do like the idea of an index, and would tend to agree with the “by-date” model. It puts some context around some of the iterations on which there has been subsequent movement and change: the biologically essentialist (and thereby anti-trans) definitions of gender to which one of your commenters was referring, for example. At the same time, it allows readers to infer commonality or continuity as they find it!
Maybe you could also include “date posted” if you were feeling particularly information-managementy (or should that be manageminty)?
Theorist by date would suit me.

Feminist theory is definitely something I’m light on, thus I really enjoy the Friday Feminist series, looking forward to continuing to follow it! The posts were always popular on The Hand Mirror even if they frequently went without comment. I think this was an indication of the thoughtfulness Deborah’s selections prompted.
