Ha, yes, we chortled at the “speak a little Spanish” remark as well. The laydee in question expertly suppressed her sneer.

It’s been a few seasons since I watched either The Bachelor or The Bachelorette and I was struck by how insipid it seemed. I think Rock of Love has ruined my palate for anything except cat-fighting strippers slugging it out for Their Man™.

(BTW I now have a plugin installed that displays LJ user icons if you want to include your URL. Or not. Minutiae of this site’s functionality is not a universal obsession.)

I’ve never seen Rock Of Love but it sounds like a must-see.

I never apologise for my taste for reality TV, but The Bachelor might be an exception. I can’t help feeling I’m subtracting from the sum of human knowledge by watching it. However. I agree about the inspidity, but I’m hanging in there for those lovely intertextual moments, as it were, that slip through the glossy edit and make it all worthwhile, like the bachelor’s not quite schooled enough expression when a contender explained to him all about her vision boards.

Giving icon thing a go.

I agree that it is those moments that come through that make reality TV fun–the glazing of the eyes mid-polite listening, the contestant who drinks just a little too much, the use of family/parenthood as a kind of lightning rod (even RoL contestants bring toys for Bret Michaels’ children).

On The Bachelorette I recall such encounters as pretty funny too: the mixture of men pitching old-fashioned woo and those whose patter was something more along the lines of “you; get your coat.”

Very pleased to see the iconographee is workinge.
