Where?
Deborah’s last post was The visitor
That’s clearly Mount Taranaki standing in for Mount Fuji with the help of some clever CGI.
Giovanni’s last post was Earthquake
Heh; I spent a certain amount of time explaining to my friends that although Mts. Fuji and Aoraki are of similar height, the aforementioned mountain does resemble Taranaki more.
The shot is taken from one of the cedar forest walkways at Hakone, a mountain trail of small towns south west of Yokohama. That’s Lake Ashi, a crater lake, in the foreground.
The wind from Mt. Fuji
I put it on the fan.
Here, the souvenir from Edo.
Basho
*Edo: the old name of Tokyo.
I like that Basho, who is credited with inventing haiku, was loose in his following of it’s structure. Initially waka was his thing.
From the Man’yoshu:
From the bay at Tago
I see, when gazing out,
Pure white-
On the heights of Fuji’s peak-
The snow has fallen.
