This time next week I shall be in the air, and the dogs and with them my house entrusted to the tender care of the harvestparents. I shall miss my small hairy family most acutely, and with them of course my good señor, to whom, had he been on the scene when I bought my tickets, I could have applied some persuasion to come with me on my adventure. But that is not the way it is and so I travel alone.
Having said all this, I enjoy travelling alone. Rarely is “alone” strictly true, since it means I meet and part company with friends and family along my various routes and have the chance to cover some serious miles with only myself of whom to take care. It’s a contrast with the contested headspace of my day-to-day life and reward in the form of the first days off I’ve taken, save weekends and one day’s sick leave, since February this year.

Hello I’ve not been here in a while, and I see you’ve redecorated! Very nice. Where are you going to after so much toil?
